Sunil Mitra: Governance

Mr Sunil Mitra is credited with putting in place the right power dynamics in West Bengal. Spearheading power reforms in the state, he oversaw the provision of a large capacity building support over a three-year transition period to build the base for an organisational transformation in the restructured power utilities. Under him, there was continued focus on capacity building and filling up fresh positions with trained professionals. The outcome: improved power availability; stable tariffs; efficiency gains in the T&D businesses; and, revenue support from the export of energy surpluses during the off-peak.
