Dhanendra Kumar: Competition Policy

A proponent of competition, Dhanendra Kumar has played a pivotal role in setting- up of Competition Commission of India (CCI) and was also its first Chairman. Starting with enforcement, framing regulations, systems, recruitment of staff and capacity building, the CCI benefitted immensely from the guidance and leadership provided by him that led the Commission to emerge as India's top market regulator, also acclaimed as the fastest-to- come up world-class competition regulator. Competition Policy being his mainstay, Dhanendra Kumar took over the Committee on National Competition Policy to formulate the draft for National Competition Policy and to suggest amendments in the Competition Law. He is India's best-known competition policy professional whose efforts have made CCI follow an evidence-based approach of antitrust policy that has managed to keep a check on anti-competitive agreements from being realised.
