The National COVID-19 vaccination drive of India is the world’s largest and has been unprecedented in both scale and reach. While India’s vaccine research prowess has been celebrated and so has the use of technology, the biggest success factor was the real brick and mortar, people, processes and actual vaccination delivery. The SKOCH Challenger Award for National Significance celebrates this largest such human and logistics effort undertaken in the area of health anywhere in the world.
What remains under the radar is the humongous effort by millions of health workers, frontline field staff, ASHAs and the administration driving astronomical logistics at the national level penetrating the difficult and geographically challenged areas. Reaching out to more than 90 per cent of India’s population and administering 1.9 billion doses far exceeds the sigma of population of several countries.

This would not have been possible, but for grit and determination and more so people uniting for a national cause. It has gained historic heights in a record time and is distinguished from all other countries for its sheer speed, scale and safety that has resulted in saving millions of lives.
SKOCH Award, independently instituted in 2003, is India’s honest civilian honour conferred by an independent organisation as a third party assessment. It is the only award in the country that is based on felt-needs assessment and outcome evaluation based on evidence. It therefore, recognises people, projects and institutions that go the extra mile to make India a better nation.
SKOCH Challenger Award is non-competitive and conferred for having made a definitive impact on governance improvement and growth of India. These are based on primary research and recommendations by the Collegium of past SKOCH Challenger Awardees and the Distinguished Fellows of SKOCH Development Foundation.
SKOCH Challenger Award comes with a backing of reputation of more than two decades. It is distinctive for its approach of selection of awardees. The SKOCH Challenger Award not only acknowledges exceptional achievers – organisations and individuals – but also spurs institutional guidance and best practices.
